Breaking- United sacks Mourinho

Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect," a statement read. "The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future. "A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager." Mourinho replaced Louis van Gaal in the United hotseat in the summer of 2016 and was tasked with leading the 20-time English champions back to the top of the domestic game after a barren three years since Sir Alex Ferguson's appointment. He started well, winning the Community Shield in his first match in charge before claiming the League Cup thanks to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic-inspired 3-2 win over Southampton. Form in the league was not as strong, however, with the Red Devils only able to finish in sixth place, though their season did end on a high as a 2-...

Manchester United appoints a caretaker coach

Manchester United has appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the caretaker manager until the end of the 2018/19 season. In a tweet on its verified Twitter handle, the football club said, Solskjaer would be joined by Mike Phelan as the first-team coach, together with Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna. In a statement released by the club on, Solskjær scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United between 1996 and 2007. In 2008, he became the club’s reserve-team manager, before taking the managerial role at FC Molde in Norway. Man U revealed that Solskjær would be in charge of the first team with immediate effect and will remain in place while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager. “Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role. I’m really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club,” said Solskjær. Ed Woodward, Man U’s Executive Vi...

Sarri: Morata is good but Hazard is better

The Spaniard has not been part of the last four Blues squads in the Premier League and has now been firmly replaced. Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri looks set to persist with Eden Hazard in a false nine role as the uncertainty over the future of Alvaro Morata grows. The Spaniard has not been included in his team's squad for their last four Premier League games, with that streak set to continue against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Hazard has been deployed as a centre-forward in the absence of a more reliable option, and has scored three times in those four appearances. Sarri has been so encouraged by the Belgian's displays that he feels he is starting to mirror Morata's best attributes - casting doubt over the Spaniard's long-term prospects. The Italian said: “We need to be balanced on the pitch and be more solid. "In the last matches I prefer this solution (Hazard at forward). For the future everything is open. “I think that Alvaro is better in the box and b...

Amazing: Rinaldo finishes as Real Madrid's 2018 Top scorer despite leaving six months into the year

Cristiano Ronaldo may have already left Real Madrid but his shadow continues to linger at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Portuguese played for the Blancos for nine years but ended his association with the club last summer.Having completed a mega-move to Juventus, Ronaldo has not looked back at all. The 33-year-old is still enjoying his football and has netted 14 Serie A goals for the Old Lady. This is a return that puts him top of the scoring chart in the Italian topflight.Although some of the Real Madrid players have often said that the club does not miss Ronaldo, results have proven otherwise. In fact, the Portuguese still managed to finish the year as top scorer of Madrid with 28 goals despite leaving the club six months ago. Some weeks ago when he spoke about his departure, Ronaldo said he felt he wasn’t valued enough by Florentino Perez and the club. “I felt it inside the club, especially from the president, that they no longer considered me the same way that they did in the start,...

Hazard fires Chelsea into League cup semi-final

An 84th-minute Eden Hazard goal, that spun into the net after a heavy deflection, earned Chelsea a place in the League Cup semi-finals after a 1-0 win over Bournemouth in an entertaining tie on Wednesday. Chelsea had buzzed round the Bournemouth goal for much of the game but it was not until substitute Hazard came on with half an hour to go that they looked creative and decisive enough to break through. Chelsea had piled on the pressure from the start and there were good chances for Olivier Giroud, Ross Barkley, who forced a diving save from Artur Boruc and Willian, who surged forward from the halfway line after 30 minutes only for Boruc to block his rising shot. Bournemouth looked dangerous on the break and Callum Wilson ran through on goal in the 17th minute but pulled his shot wide. A scampering run from Jordon Ibe opened up the Chelsea defence 20 minutes later and Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga had to fly to his left to keep out Lys Mousset's curling shot. Rube...

Man City back to winning ways but still behind Liverpool

Pep Guardiola's side were much improved as they bounced back from consecutive defeats at Southampton, but they must do more ahead of Thursday's clash. The reports of Manchester City's demise are greatly exaggerated. Sure, Pep Guardiola's side were not quite at their brilliant best as they beat Southampton, but they showed more than enough to prove that there is plenty of life in them yet. Whether they have enough to win the Premier League title this season is another matter, however, and depends as much on Liverpool as it does City. And with the two sides set to face each other on Thursday night in what could be a pivotal match in the season, we are soon to learn exactly how well City have recovered from their two bruising defeats over Christmas. Compared to the performances against Crystal Palace and Leicester City, this was much, much better. In those defeats City looked starved of creativity in attack (by their high standards, anyway) and brittle at the back....

Palace 0 Chelsea 1: Kante scores a 3 point goal

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante is enjoying his most prolific season in a blue shirt and scored a fine winner against Crystal Palace. N'Golo Kante scored his third goal of the season to earn Chelsea a deserved 1-0 win at Crystal Palace that moves the Blues five points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal. David Luiz provided a rare assist from open play to allow Kante an opportunity that he pounced upon before scoring a goal that trebles his previous best tally in a Premier League season. Palace went into the game seeking to extend a three-match unbeaten streak that included a famous win over Manchester City before Christmas, but they struggled to prise the ball away from a Chelsea side determined to avoid a repeat of their Selhurst Park defeat last season. The result left Roy Hodgson's men just five points clear of the relegation zone, while fourth-placed Chelsea pulled away from Arsenal, who lost heavily at Liverpool on Saturday. Antonio Rudiger headed tamely into t...

Man United defeats Newcastle to earn their fourth win in a row

The Norwegian threw on his two big-name replacements and was given immediate rewards as United beat Newcastle on Wednesday with two late goals. Whether it’s playing the opposition off the park or delivering the key decisions at the vital moment, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot seem to do any wrong right now. This wasn’t a vibrant attacking performance full of goals and showreel highlights like the trio which had preceded it, but Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday night gave further proof that Solskjaer has injected something new into his side’s make-up. In throwing on players as talented as Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez for the final half-hour, the United caretaker manager must have known there was half a chance his substitutes would deliver. But the former Everton man’s immediate opener, and then the involvement of both replacements in Marcus Rashford’s clinching second, would have delighted the man who made his name as a super-sub ...

Will accepting United's job be a backward step for Pochetino?

One outstanding candidate for the Old Trafford hotseat has emerged since Mourinho's sacking but Pochettino is at the right club to kick on and succeed. Much of the week’s Premier League chat has been focussed on Manchester United and Jose Mourinho. No sooner had the unshaven Portuguese been driven out of Carrington had speculation begun over who would replace him and the weekend's festive football programme was a bit overlooked in the midst of it all. It didn’t take long for much of the media to alight on the name of Mauricio Pochettino, notwithstanding the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hired to keep the hotseat warm until the end of the season. The Norwegian did well in his opening game against Cardiff City  but he won't be there long. Besides, what United do is pretty inconsequential between now and May. The teams who will matter are Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. While Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have spent heavily to get their teams into content...

Mourinho to pocket 7.7Billion naira as compensation

A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new manager, the statement said. Jose Mourinho's turbulent two-and-a-half-year tenure at Manchester United has come to an end after what has been the club's worst-ever start to a Premier League season. The announcement was made by the club in a short statement that thanked the former Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid manager for his work and confirmed that a caretaker manager would be put in charge until the end of the 2018/19 season. The 65-word statement read, "Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect. The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future. A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, f...
